A Brilliant Week of Contrasting Events

From York to the Moorlands

The newly contrasting event delivery by the PHPS team took on the delivery of UKEMS, the UK’s Environmental Muta-Genesis Society’s 3-day conference at York University at the start of the week, then moved to the Staffordshire Moorlands for The Festival of Brilliant, a 2-day celebration of children’s books.

Working Across Diverse Sectors

This brilliantly illustrates the sharp contrast between the sorts of organisations we work with, and the type of events we produce. Affinity Events have been responsible for the delivery of UKEMS for the past 4 years, and undertook all the pre-event work — including building an event website, organising abstract submissions, delegate bookings, and putting together the full conference itinerary including keynote speakers, lectures, abstracts, AGM, poster sessions and even organising a Gala Dinner at the beautiful Guildhall.

Conference Delivery in Action

The contrasting event delivery by PHPS got hands-on at the conference from the outset with the registration of 99 delegates, and the delivery of 36 presentations over 3.5 days — event app and digital exhibitor management too. Despite being really brilliant at organising many things at once, they still didn’t manage to pose for a team photo!

On to the Festival of Brilliant

UKEM25 closed successfully on the 9th July, and the team switched gear and headed to Biddulph Old Hall in the beautiful Staffordshire Moorlands, for the Festival of Brilliant — an arts and community festival celebrating all things books, in the most inclusive and, well, simply brilliant way!

Joyful Creativity in the Moorlands

Of course, there was a lot of chat about books, but also performance art, interactive nature workshops, lots of creative doodling, sticking and noisemaking, live music and even a bouncing trampolining storyteller! The PH event team led across health and safety, technical supplies and site management, for a fabulous weekend.

Supporting It All

From academics, medics and industrialists sharing groundbreaking scientific research and findings in the historic city of York, to children celebrating a love of reading in a magical Moorlands setting, PHPS was there to support it all.

A Truly Brilliant Week

What a wonderful week — after all, variety is the spice of life.
