Countdown to Christmas lights up local faces

It’s a highlight of the year, it always has a countdown, it marks the start of the festivities and it’s always a great pleasure to see people’s eyes light up, at the annual Christmas Lights Switch On events.

The Christmas magic returned to Newcastle under Lyme town centre on 24 November with the #LightUpCastle event, an afternoon and evening of free family fun. The work for PH Productions started long before this, originating the event plan, including site management and associated health and safety.

PH provided the main stage, located outside the Guildhall, and looked after the associated lighting, sound, stage management and laser light show, with the support of trusted sub-contractors. The Big Boyband Reunion proved very popular as the crowds sang along on the run up to the town’s “Your Heroes Awards” winners pressing the button on a dazzling display of lights. We worked alongside Newcastle BID, Newcastle Borough Council, the Castle Artisan Market and Stanworths amusements to put on a family-friendly event for locals, with a wide range of attractions and activities to kick off Newcastle under Lyme’s Christmas celebrations in style.

Over in nearby Stoke-on-Trent, PH supported Hanley City Centre BID on 27 November, with stage, sound and lighting for their Welcome to Christmas event. It was a busy weekend that tested the flexibility of our event management plans, as the inclement weather resulted in a switch of performance location from outside, to inside The Potteries Centre. Despite Storm Bert’s best efforts to disrupt matters, the show did go on and the City Centre, along with the crowd’s faces, lit up with delight as the colourful parade towards Christmas began.
